Kit Kemp has been on the brain lately so I was excited to see her feature in the 1st Dibs Introspective Magazine this month. Design team, Kit and her husband Tim, work together as co-founders of Firmdale Hotels. The creative, UK-based duo (Tim being the business mind behind the collaboration) purchase hotels which Kit then designs to create a luxurious, yet boutique experience. Each room is different and unique which keeps guests captivated and inspired to make them feel at home.
A few months ago I was invited to Sunday afternoon tea at the Crosby Street Hotel. What a delightful and sophisticated treat! Never having visited the hotel, I was in awe from the moment I stepped through the door. As if the bright color walls and art were not enough, the ornate tea pots and pretty cakes were as tasty as they were beautiful. I truly recommend anyone shopping in the Soho area to take a break for tea or just hop downtown to try it out.
After discovering that Kit and Tim Kemp were the masterminds behind the beautiful Crosby Street Hotel, I knew I had to find out more. Kit Kemp has a book out named "A Living Space" which is just phenomenal and her feature on Introspective, as mentioned above, shares more about her creative self too. I also found out that Kit Kemp collaborates with Christopher Farr, a London based textile and rug designer, when I met a Farr employee and got to touch all of the fabrics (and wallcoverings!) first hand. Can you believe that Kit not only designs and decorates each room in all 8 of their hotels, but she also has a say in designing the fabrics too? I think we can all agree that the Kemps are a creative, business collaboration that we aspire to be more like.
All of the Christopher Farr fabrics can be found at Holland & Sherry in New York City.
