Creating a gallery wall in your home is an inexpensive solution for art but it also can be meaningful and fun. Think, black and white photos of the kids, color photos of family and friends, random drawings or paintings that you cherish, drawings the kids made in school, etc. There are so many options and plenty of inspiration found on my Pinterest page.
If you are really brave and have the space, you can even do a gallery wall on the corner of a hallway.
Keeping everything neutral is also nice.
I am in the process of collecting photos and art for my gallery wall. I even bought a paper mache zebra head to mix in a 3D figure. I like to collect watercolors from places that I travel so it will make my wall even more personal, and finding vintage frames from flea markets makes it original.
