One of my favorite interior design firms is O and S. Catherine’s Texas home graced the cover of House Beautiful in 2016 and she did such a lovely job decorating for the holidays without being over the top with her red and green colored Christmas decor. I just love the beautiful mix of fabrics and antique pieces. She uses color but in a soft way where every room feels bright and spacious. Enjoy!
This Christmas, I’m decorating with orange, and not just the color but the actual fruit! I love the way the citrus pairs with the fragrant evergreen Christmas tree and rich red cranberries. You can dehydrate oranges using this recipe here. String your dry orange slices as a garland around your tree. You can also use the thin slices to decorate your front door wreath. Add a traditional red bow or have some fun with a turquoise ribbon.

I participated in Rooms with a View at Southport Congregational Church this year. The theme was “We Gather Together” so I wanted to a create a space where I would personally like to gather. As the season changes and the weather turns a little cooler, I imagine myself in a sunroom surrounded by warmth and the outdoors. I tented the ceiling to give the space a cabana like feel and covered the walls and furniture in a floral Peter Fasano print. I added a calamondin tree and stag horn fern to the space because both plants belong indoors this time of year in Connecticut. The blue and white ginger jars and antique chinoiserie mirror add an Asian element to the space while the camel side table feels more Middle Eastern (and an animal you may see outside a tent in the desert). The layers and prints add interest to the space so that you may sit down and stay a while.
I hope you were able to visit this year, and if not, please try to go for the 25th Anniversary next year!
